My 10 month old has her bottom two teeth and her top two and I brush twice a day with the finger brush and the safe to swallow toothpaste. When they resist I have found that making the airplane sounds or other sounds you use when first trying to spoon feed has tremendously helped. Also, if she becomes fussy during the beginning, I will act silly and say "Okie dokie then mommy is going to brush her teeth and feel so good" and then I will pretend to brush my teeth and smile and sing. She loves it and start smiling and almost immediately grab for my finger. Do not be hard on yourself. Like all things they push away, make it fun and interactive. That will transpire into fun habits later on with proper hygiene and cleanliness   hope this helped and God Bless all you wonderful mothers.
