MY LABOR STORY:
So, they hooked me up to the machines and began the water IV around 10 a.m. My doctor came and checked me. At the time I was 4 cm dilated, he was in position and I believe I was thinned out. She broke my water then (at 10:30 a.m.). We sat around until 11:30 waiting for contractions to begin on their own. The doctor explained that even though it was just a day early, he may still take a while to prgress, so it was no surprise that the hour brought no progress. I was allowed to eat in that hour though, so that was great. The nurse then began the Pitocin at 11:30 at 20 minute intervals. Things were slow going, and at around 1 pm I shared a chicken breast with my husband. The contractions started to come, but I was still able to talk through them. For about an hour or so my contractions became really strong, but nothing some profanity couldn't get me through. The nurse showed me some positions and technniques to get me through them also. It seemed like they were getting worse and more severe. I wanted to get an epidural before it was "too late" but also feared that the hourly rate rumor would be true and I'd be in debt for the rest of my life ... so I was admittedly trying to delay the epidural until I couldn't take it any longer. The contractions seemed worse, so I asked the nurse to check me, she said I was up to 6 cm. My husband said I should get the epidural, and the nurse waited for my agreement. I said I probably should because I don't want to progress too far. She said she'd call the anistigeolist (spelling!!?). While she did that, I asked to go to the rest room once more. I went in the rest room and tried to pee. The nurse came back in while I was in there and said the epidural was on it's way. Then suddenly this great pressure was felt, and I stood up thinking maybe that would reduce it ... when suddenly I realized holy hell this baby is coming! I swang open the door and said frantically... "I'm having my baby!!!" (or something). The nurse didn't believe me ... as I was only 6 cm 20 minutes ago. She checked. Her eyes widened and she pushed the nurse button and told them to call my doc, I was having my baby and to cancel the epidural!! So, now I'm freaking out!! No doc in sight and no epi ... awesome!! She and another nurse are getting their gloves and such on and she reassures me that they can deliver him if the doc doesn't make it!! Fortunately, the doctor is apparently a super sprinter because she got there in no time. Anyway, the pain was intense. I was not mentally prepared for such a great amount of pain (seeing that the epi worked so well with Connor that I literally laughed him out). There was little laughter this time. This time, poor Parker probably heard horrific screaming! I just did not think I was going to make it. It burned. It stung. I felt all the stretching and him dropping down and through. It was the longest 20 minutes of my life, but then he popped out and his little arms stretched upward toward me, as if wanting me to hold him and they placed him on me with a blanket and just like that all the pain, all the screaming was forgotten ... and so worth it.
