My Little Heart is my greatest Love. And his Daddy is a close second. He had a rough go at the start, but for the most part is beyond fantastic, though I'm pretty sure the nurses at the ER know him on sight.
Pregnancy
Nothing spectacular, other than at 3 months I was alot less than my Pre-Pregnancy weight, the little Monster was eating everything I put in, and my appetite had increased substantially, and all of the fat I had in reserve. With lot's of genetic Twins in my family, most Identical, and the majority of those Boys, I was thinking we must be getting twins for sure, but first ultrasound said one. Though it had it's feet crossed so we couldn't tell the sex. So it was then Labled "Monster" 'cause it sure ate like one. Second Ultrasound at 31 weeks Monster did the same thing, but was already well over 5lbs, so we were warned of a possible 12lbs baby. Definitly starting to look like a Monster . Third Ultrasound 2 weeks before birth(1 week before EDD) looking, thankfully, under 10lbs, but still hiding the sex with it's feet...Brat.
Birth
My L&D wasn't anything too spectacular, but I did have an Epi due to the fact something told me I had to, because my Baby needed me to. I could deal with the pain, but my little Monster needed me to ease it. However I scared the Medical people, because I could actually move better after the Epi than I have in years....I think I need another one now. And still felt pretty much everything, including the pain, but it did ease off the worst of it.Though it also wore off faster than it should have, and I had to have a redose. actual Delivery time was half an hour. And the cry of "It's a boy" was followed by "Monster's name is Khym". Born at 40weeks 5 days, he wes 22.5" and 9lbs 7oz. the running jokes were, "He was born with his boots on" and " if he'd stayed in there one more day he'd have been born full grown". I kept having the feeling/worrying something was wrong with him, little did I know, or anyone believe me, but I was right. Hindsight says the Dr. should have picked it up when she was doing her first exam of him.
Feeding
We are Pro-Choice on this issue. I had always thought I'd breast-feed for atleast the first 3/4 months but while I was pregnant something told me that I shouldn't with this baby, so we had decided not too. However when he ended up in the NICU needing every thing possible, we decided it would be best if I did BF, there was also the added factor that they would let us actually hold him if we did. There was also the added benefit of where the Breast is harder to drink from it would also be a form of Phsio-therapy. Oddly enough within 2 hours of our deciding on this my milk, which I had thought had already come in, actually came in....Moo...However Khym had a suck that scared the Nurses, Dr.s and Lactation consultants, and an appetite to go along with it. after he was out of the hospital for some reason he seemed to be unable to actually keep on the breast, but we were pumping so it wasn't soo bad, and meant I was in less pain. But we found out on his second trip into the hospital that he phsically could not nurse from the breast because it litterally hurt him too much, however after that, there just wasn't a position we could place him in to physically, due to the reason he stopped the Breast in the first place, so he stayed on EBM. However our third trip into the hospital could have been negated if we had realized that it wasn't actually conected to his previous trips, but due to the fact my Little Heart was allergic to my milk. *SIGH* should have just listened to that feeling that this baby shouldn't be breast-fed.
"Health-Problems"
During L&D Khym had a stroke, this caused Bleeding into the Ventricles(Brain cavities) and that in turn caused him to have seizures. Due to what I feel is inaddeqquate training/experince, and in at least one case careing, Khym was 48hours old before a medical professional said, "Holy shit, you're right, he is having seizures", and had been having them every other hour since he'd been born. I even believe that he was having one right in front of a Dr and they ignored it as being a seizure. The Dr. is the one I am certain didn't care. Then as the blood was leaving it did what blood does and clogged th brains natural drainage tubes, causing Secondary Hydrocephalus, Sooo back to the ER and he gets emergency Neuro-surgery to place a VP Shunt. *Giggle* and then at less than a month old and under sedation just up from surgery and tied to the bed, the little Booger manage to take out his tubes. Umm next morning he was out of the NICU and down into the normal pediatric ward. Where we shall only insert various and numerous swear words here about a nurse contradicting herself and trying to go against what our son did/needed and the Dr.'s orders when it came to our son's feeding, "Because Normal Babies.." umm he's not shown himself to be that Normal yet!!! I wonder if maybe her math wasn't worse than mine. Then we had to rush him back for possible complications with his shunt, all the signs were there, umm yeah except for the fact it was actually that he was allergic to my Breast Milk. Since he's been about 7 months he's had "Episodes" that look like shunt failure but have his Neuro-surgeon and other medical professionals stumped, because everything in his brain looks normal, they think maybe what it is is either some new form of seizures(his med's have been upped) or he's getting some really nasty headaches. I just want them to stop!!!!!!!       My poor baby. Otherwise when he went in for an assesment at 6 months just to see how much/what help he needs he was actually assessed as being 9 + months, they thought until they looked at his chart he was somewhere over a year by looks. He's doing sooooooo Awesome.
Other
Little Heart Loves his Sissy Dog, our Dalmation, and is trying to love Sissy Cat, but she's just so much of a spazz. He loves to give the dog treats, usually his food, he actually holds it out for her to take. It's so cute. He does not stop, he's one of these "GO GO GO GO GO" kids, climbing pretty much everything, and running is going to be just around the corner. He's such a scrawney rawney, he eats like a little piggy, but uses it all up, they're not actually worried about it because he is growing, just Tall and Ribbs. 'though they want him to be on as high a caloric intake as possible. Because he's so skinny he can wear shirts that are for smaller/younger (and now with summer shorts) but he needs the pants to be for much bigger, downside, we can't get small enough belts.
