Hiya! I'm Nikki, I'm 28, my boyfriend and I live in Florida, and we just welcomed our new son, Seth, on July 24 2008.
So a little about our journey-
I had always had painful, irregular periods while I was growing up. Then, in 2004, I got my period in August-and by October it still hadnt gone away, so I figured it was about time to suck it up and go see the doctor. It was at that time that I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). They didnt see any actual cysts on my ovaries t that time, but since I had all the other symptoms, that was still thier diagnosis. They DID find cysts on my cervix and uterus at that point however. I was started on birth control to help regulate my cycles and help with the painful cramping I dealt with. It worked, for the most part, though I would still skip a period here or there even with the pills. In 2006, I was rechecked, and they actually found cysts on my ovaries at that point. The OB I was seeing told me then, that with my having the PCOS, if I ever decided I wanted to have kids, I would have a very difficult time conceiving, and most likely would have to go through fertility treatments. I still continued taking my birthcontrol pills.
Fast forward to this past March...I had gotten home from work, and was changing clothes and noticed some fluid leaking from my breast-and I paniced!! I took a pregnancy test the next day, Saturday March 8, and sure enough it was positive! I thought back over the past couple months-my last "normal" period had been in November-Id had spotting and some cramping in December and January, then nothing in Febuary-but I hadnt thought anything of it all at the time, because again even on the pill it wasnt unusual for me to have a skipped period here or there. The following week we got into the Dr's office, and found out I was 19 weeks along-almost 5 whole months!! I was so scared because Id still been taking my birthcontrol pills the entire time, as well as occassionally drinking, and Id been in a car accident in January and so had xrays done at that time as well. They sent me to the hospital for a level 2 ultrasound to make sure the baby was ok, and sure enough, everything looked perfect-I was thrilled!!
I couldnt have asked for an easier pregnancy! Obviously I'd had no morning sickness, and up until the last month I felt super the entire time! Finally, on July 24, a week before my due date, Seth was born via an unplanned c-section. My water had broken but he hadnt dropped, and we hadnt progressed at all sothe doctor felt a c-section was in our best interest. Honestly, I cant say I'm all that disappointed about having to have one, and as of 9:50 pm Thursday July 24, my son, Seth Joseph McCue was born, and couldnt have been more perfect=)
