I am a 23 year old mother to a son born at 24 weeks gestation in June of '07. I had severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome and my son was born via emergency c-section weighing 1lb 4 oz and 11.25 in long. He was in the NICU for 130 days. He had a bumpy road as do most but he is definitely a little fighter. He had PDA ( closed with meds), ROP ( had surgery on both eyes), BPD ( on vent for almost 3 months) , NEC ( treated medically no surgery), infections, anemia, hypobilirubin, pulmonary hemmorhage, bilateral hernia repair, and of course the typical As and Bs and feeding problems. He came home on oxygen, apnea monitor and pulse ox on Nov. 3rd. He was able to come off O2 finally in September of 2008. Drake is currently 28 months old and is overall doing very well. He has been discharged from EI and is caught up almost to his actual age in all areas!! He does wear glasses due to myopia and strabismus. His hearing is also being watched very closely although I dont believe he has any hearing loss. He had a some feeding issues but is now eating great and we are trying to get some weight on him. Right now he is hanging around 20 lbs and 32.5". Heseems very healthyto menow but hisPulmonologist has told me if we can no daycare until he is 3 to hopefully give him one more healthy cold and flu seasonso that his lungs have just alittle extra time. So looks like another winter of being cautious and avoiding crowds but whatever I have todo to give him the best future. He is our little miracle.
