I'm a tattooed, motorcycle riding, roller derby playing, no bullshit momma. My pregnancy wasn't planned, but just so happens to be one of the best mistakes I ever made. Little Johnny Ace is the best thing that's ever happend to me... I love my mommy's little monster!

Heeeeeeeeere's Johnny!

Johnny Ace
Born Dec. 22, 6am
8lbs, 21 inches.

My labor story:
It all started around 9pm, Dec. 19th... sitting at my mom's house I got my first real contraction. I had a few more, but they ended up tapering off and I went home. Around 7am the next morning (Saturday) I was woken out of a dead sleep with horrible pain... and I was able to sleep for the next few hours between contractions until around noon, when they were just too painful and too close together. At that point, they were about 4-5 minutes apart and varying in intensity. So finally, around 5pm, we headed to the hospital, knowing we'd probably be sent home, but I wanted to see if there was any progression and if Johnny was handling the contractions well.

Well, they checked me, and sadly, there was no real progression (maybe 1/2 cm), but Johnny experienced some deceleration, so they kept me a few hours to monitor me before they sent me home and told me to come back when my water broke or the contractions were more regular. I couldn't sleep at all that night. My roomate got home from work around 3am and started timing my contractions for me and they were every 3 minutes like clockwork. So I woke Ace up around 5 or 6 am and we headed back to the hospital. By then, the contractions were VERY painful and I was sure I'd be more dialated and we'd have our baby by the end of the day. Unfortunately, that's not how things worked out.

They checked me and said there was no progression... and that's about when things started going down hill. Although my contractions had been very regular at home, they tapered off at the hospital back to every 4-5 minutes, but it seemed like they were changing... from the normal painful, build up and taper off, breath though it, kind of contractions to instant shooting pain in my lower back. They once again sent me home around 9am, but by this time, my spirit was crushed.

So back at home, the contractions were very irregular... but the intensity was like nothing I could have every imagined. I was convinced there was no way that what I was experiencing was normal. Nobody could do anything for me. I was experiencing extreeme back labor... I can't even describe that pain. My boyfriend and roomate sat there in tears, because the pain I was in was unbearable to watch. So finally, around 9pm Sunday night (my EDD) we headed back to the hospital.

The nurses were extreemely rude at this point. They basically treated me like I was some wuss who just couldn't handle the pain. Ace overheard them talking shit about me, saying "guess who's back" and some other snide comments. The nurse checked me and said I was about the same, maybe two cm. She hooked me up to the monitors and said I'd probably get sent home again. She said the doctor may be able to give me a shot or something for the pain, but was just completely cold and rude. That's about when my boyfriend lost it. He asked her to step outside and basically ripped her a new one, and I guess the doctor overheard it and decided to come in and talk to me. He checked me and scolded my nurse, telling her I was 3-4 cm and obviously in pain and that he'd just admit me and give me some pitocin to help the progression... God bless that man...

So the rest of the night was a blur. They admitted me. Before they even started the pitocin, the wonderful epidural man (who I later expressed my love for... lol) gave me my epidural and the nurse hooked me up to the pitocin (but not without rudely pointing out to the anestesiolegist how irregular my contractions were and how sorry she was that his time was being waisted sitting there waiting for a contraction to see if the epidural was working). Shortly after getting the epidural, I had a bad reaction and my blood pressure dropped, causing Johnny's heart rate to drop between 79-80. The next thing I knew, there were 4 or 5 nurses in the room rolling me over from side to side, shaking my belly, calling for the doctor and saying words like "we need to get him out" and "damnit, where's the doctor"... after about the most terrifying 6 minutes of my life, Johnny's heart rate rose and things calmed down. I don't remember a whole lot after that.

I finally got some much needed sleep. The nurse woke me around 3am to tell me I was 8 cm... I didn't even wake up for her to check me. At around 5:45am or so, one of the IVs started beeping, which woke me up, so I called for a nurse and while they fixed the kink in the line, they decided they might as well check me. I was still half asleep and the nurse told me to give a little push... next thing I know they're rolling me over on my back and waking my boyfriend up to hold my leg. I pushed once or twice before the nurse told me to stop so the doctor could get there in time... the head was already crowning! The doctor made it to the room a few minutes later, just in time to catch Johnny! It was quite a sight... Ace holding my leg with one hand and frantically trying to text with the other (we had a plan to notify everyone when I was about to start pushing so they could get ready to head down to the hospital... but it happened so fast that half the people on the list got "she's pushing" and a minute later, the other half got "he's here")... apparently, I'm a good pusher.

Johnny entered this world at exactly 6am... I think he let out his first cry before he was all the way out! They placed him on my chest, cleaned him off a bit and Ace cut the chord. He was perfect from the moment he was born... just a slight conehead, but otherwise perfect... nice and pink, no smushed face, eyes wide open... he even turned his head when Ace said "hello Johnny" and gave him a look like "hey, I know that voice". It was amazing.
