Hello! My name is Kaeli. My wonderful husband and I were married June 14th, 2008. We are the proud parents of three furry babies, two kitties (Ellie and Bella) and a golden retriever puppy (Abby). We love our animals. We found out I was pregnant November 2nd. Elizabeth Jo (lovingly known as Izzy to most on here) came into this world via c-section at 6:31 pm on July 6th, 2009.
My labor story
On July 5th, 2009, I was admitted to the hospital to begin induction. The nurse inserted cervadil at 7:00pm that night. I took some ambien to sleep, and woke up about 3 am to some contractions. They weren't super strong, but enough to keep me awake. At 8:00 am, they checked me and the cervadil had gotten me to 2 centimeters, so pitocin was started. The contractions were not too bad at all. At about noon, the contractions were right on top of each other with no break whatsoever, so I asked for an epidural. The nurse checked me, and I was still at 2 centimeters. They gave me the epidural anyway, because I was miserable. At 3 pm, my water broke...so much fluid!!! I think I lost 5 pounds right then. At this point, they checked me again, and I was 3 centimeters, and Elizabeth was still at a -3 station. My OB came in at 5 and said we would start considering a c-section in an hour. Just about that time, my heartrate started jumping with every contraction. My heartrate was higher than the baby's at each contraction. My doc decided at that point, for my own health it was time to do the c-section. They wheeled me to the ER where the doctors and nurses started taking bets on how big the baby would be. Prior to this, the guess had been 8 and a half pounds. One doctor said, go big or go home, I bet 9 pounds 11 ounces...I was laying there thinking, no way, you're insane, there is no way my baby is that big. She came out 9 pounds 14 ounces!!!! I was shocked! And oh so very happy. I recovered quickly and easily, but Elizabeth had some blood sugar issues while we were in the hospital. She was 9 pounds 8 ounces when we went home.
We are now dealing with Elizabeth having an atrial septal defect (hole in the heart), severe reflux, and delayed gastric emptying. After a week in the hospital after a dr visit at 7 weeks old, she has finally started to gain weight and has gained 10 ounces in the last week and a half bringing her to 11 pounds 5 ounces. She is the most beautiful baby in the world (I might be a bit biased). I love her with every fiber of my being. I adore being a mom!
