hey, im Aisling im 21, i have been in a relationship with steven for 7 years high school sweet hearts lol, and we have a beautiful son Aodhan who was born on the 21st June 2005. I am currently studying a BA hons degree in early childhood studies/primary school teaching..I am in class 2 days a week and have 3 years left untill I am a qualified early years practitioner and primary school teacher... i waited untill my son started school before i went on to study and i really appreciate getting those first years with him...i have chose to do this course of study as i love working with children and have always wanted to be a teacher and because i can still be a working mummy and be with Aodhan because i will only be working the hours hes at school and will get all the school holidays off with him so its great, Steven is currently studying a BA hons degree in history and politics he has only one year left, he isnt too sure yet what he will do when he is finshed the degree but his first choice is to get his teaching certificate and teach history and politics.
Aodhan is getting so big and growing up so quick it is crazy, they dont stay wee babies too long..he has got so comical and has a really funny character..he is so loveable and is a real mummys boy. I love him so much i dont know what i would do with out him, i dont think i would be were am at today if it hadnt have been for him, he has been my inspiration and my reason for wanting to get on with my studies and provide a good future for him....i really hope to meet other mums here to, just to have a chat with or maybe get advice etc..if you would like me as a friend just parenttank me or pm me or leave me a comment

PREGNANCY.
How did you know you were pregnant?
- well, i missed my period, lol and had about 10 pregnancy test, just couldn’t believe it

How old were you?
- i was 16

Was it planned?
- no not at all, but me and steven had been with each other 2yrs and were and still r a very strong couple and always talked bout marriage and kids for the future, but just didn’t expect it 2cum so early on in life

What foods did you crave?
- not much just chilli wave doritos

Any morning sickness?
- no none at all wasn’t sick even once in my pregnancy i think tho cus i had been afraid 2tell my parents till i was 4 and half months that in my mind i made myself diguise any signs of pregnancy till they knew, and then i didn’t even get a bump till i was 7 and half months yet he was growing normal and i was really sore cus my belly wouldn’t expand his feet and arms wer sticking into my ribs

What was the worst side effect?
- i had headaches quite a lot was very low in iron during my pregnancy

Who was your doctor?
- Dr McKinney

Did you find out the sex?
- no, but every one kept saying it was gonna be a boy, not one person said a girl and they wer right

Due date?
9th of June and he wasn’t born untill the 21st of June

LABOR
Which hospital?
- Erne Hospital, Enniskillen N.Ireland and the nurses and midwives were luvly 2 me and my partner and didnt treat us like little children like i heard that they do when young girls are having children

Were you induced?
- no, went all by myself

Where did you start labor?
- at the hospital

How did you know you were in labor?:
- well i had been scheduled to go into at hospital on the 20th of a June at 4pm to get induced as i was 2weeks over due, they told me they were gonna start inducing me at 10pm that night so as i was in there from that time my mum and boyf decided to go get a mcdonalds as i was getting signed in and stuff and by the time they came back an hour later i was in the toilet with terrible pains and was lying in bed, eventually at 8:30pm a midwife called to my bed to see me and my mum told them that she thought i was having contractions so midwife felt my stomach and said to get ready to go to labor ward as i was having slight contractions, went to labor ward at bout 8:45 the midwife told me and my partner about the different types of pain relief i could get and i told her i didnt want any apart from maybe sum gas and air, around 10:15pm my boyfriend steven was rubbing my back and the my waters broke and my son Aodhan was born at 2:57am

How long were you in labor?
From the contractions about 8 and half hours – from my waters breaking nearly 4 and a half hours

How long did you push?
- didn’t start pushing untill bout 2:20am so just over a half an hour.

Did you have an epidural?
- no

Vaginal or C-Section?
- vaginal

Was there complications with the labor and delivery?
- no. Nothing at all labor and delivery was fine it was not sore at all, i think its the contractions that is the pain and most unbearable apart..i ha complications after wards tho, my placenta didnt come so i had to go 2therater and get it MANUALLY removed. thank god i was knocked out cus that wud have hurt, so my mum and steven had to stay with Aodhan and steven had to give him his first feed by bottle, they tried to put him on my breast 2c if that wud help move the placenta along but he wudnt take it, therefore i cud hav placenta complications in future pregnancies

Did you cry when they were born?
- yeah,i was so over whelmed and happy it was da best moment of my life they just out him on my chest straight away for instant skin to skin contact

Who was in the delivery room?
- my mum and steven and they wer the best ever

Have an episiotomy?
- no

Vacuum or forceps used?
- no

Anyone spend the night with you the first night?:
- no, cus he was born early hours of morn steven stayed till 7:30am and then went home and came back up later that morning and stayed untill 11:30pm both nights i was in, then i got home the Thursday, Aodhan was born the Tuesday

- my boyfriend lived with his granda Aiden as he was growing up and he had a very close relationship, his granda passed away at a young age of 58 before i even got to meet him, so i suggested to steven did he want to name the baby after him if it was a boy and he was so happy, so we did, but decided to spell it the Irish way, Aodhan so that it would be his own

- no, bottle fed, but my wee man is just as healthy as a baby breast fed, Aodhan has barely even had a cold in his life so far, hopefully stays that way and he has been around so many children that have been sick, he spent a week with my niece when she had chicken pox and never got it, my niece had septicemia meningitis and when we found out she had it my son had been with every day that week before when she must have been coming down with it and thankfully never got affected, he has a very high immune system, and thankfully my niece survived this as my sis had been told there was nothing they could do and that was 2years ago, just wanted to add that in there incase use were wondering if she was ok

What theme did you do their nursery in?:
- baby blue painted walls and blanket, curtains and wall border with baby cars on it

Are they a smiler or a cryer?:
- well he has his days when he is a cryer as most children do, but no matter what mood he is in he always gives u a smile 1st thing in the morning

What makes them fall asleep?:
- when he was a baby it was getting his nose rubbed but since he has been one he has had a comfort that when he is tired he HAS to rubb the corner of his t-shirt, jammy top etc r he will not go to sleep

When did baby start sleeping through the night?
- 4 weeks old, then when he turned 7months when he went off formula milk he started waking up in the middle of the night for no reason apart from a cuddle and he continued this untill he was around 2 years old and does it the odd time still

Who does baby look like?:
-he looks like both of us, some days he cud be the double of me and other days like his daddy, but he def has the mccullagh eyes, that is my side of the family, everyone in the mccullaghs, cousins, aunts, uncles, we all have the same eyes

Are they the first?:
- yes but i would like another 2 or 3 in a couple of years time

ABOUT MOMMY & DADDY

Is it true love?:
- yes, we have shared all our firsts with eachother, have had bad times but always get through them, and we r the best of friends 2 which i think makes a relationship really strong, we hav a laugh together aswell as bein all luvy duvy, talk 2 eachotha bout nefing and everyfing and really understand each other, steven is the luv of my life and bestfriend, and never go a day without saying i love you 2 eachother, we get on really well, just love lying up on the sofa with him, he always hugs me, constantly tells me he luvs me, and 2gether we r both not wise lol. We hav the same group of friends cus we met that way so we r just so close, i dont think i could ever be with any one else

Has having a baby affected your relationship?:
- in the early stages it did a wee bit, but all we had to do was talk bout it and the problem was overcum

Reactions to the news?:
- really scared cus was unexpected, but after 1st couple of months after the fear stage was gone, i luved being pregnant and it felt great, we couldnt wait to the baby was born and i hav luved evry second of being a mum and i luv my wee man so much

Did you ever consider abortion or adoption?:
- never even came into discussion, I would never consider any of them in a million years

What sex were you hoping for?:
- we didnt care as long as the baby was healthy, but so happy we had a little boy

Were you married or dating the father?:
- dating, in a long and serious relationship

How much weight did mommy gain?:
- i was 8 stone before i got pregnant and was 8 stone and 5lbs the day i went into have him so didn’t really put any on at all

How much weight has mommylost?:
- when i left the hospital 2days after having him i was 7stone, so having him must have just drained everything out of me and i stayed like that up untill bout 1 and a half years ago and now im a healthy 8 and a half stone

Are you enjoying parenthood together?:
- yessss, we both love being parents and having wee family outings, had a 1st family holiday abroad this year in august 2008 we went 2 lanzerote for a week and it was brill, especially now that i have passed my driving test we can go wer ever we want

Plans for the future?:
-well we have been living 2gether since Aodhan was 10 months, so r plan now is 2finish college and both be qualified teachers, maybe buy a house as we r just renting and get married hopefully when we r bout 25 and then start having more children

FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Who are the Godparents?:
- my sister Sharon is Godmother, and Stevens cousin David is Godfather

How did the grandparents take it?:
- they were upset at first especially with us not telling them straight away, kept saying what if something had have happened like a miscarriage and no one would have known to support me, they were worried that it would affect our future as they knew we both wanted to go to college but as u can see frm my profile as it hasnt cus i started college last year when Aodhan started school, but they both came around, and my parents especially my dad has an amazing bond with my son

Did your friends stick by you?:
- yes, they have all been very supportive

Did anyone throw a baby shower?:
- no,we dont really do that here as when the baby is born every one comes to baby’s home and gives presents like things u wud get at a baby shower and then at the christening they give more presents for the baby

Has anyone helped since the birth?:
- yes, we hav great support around us
