just tell me your a baby-gaga friend!
the labor story: kinda long, but interesting
i went into labor on December 31, 2007, but i didn't really know it until later. it was an hour shy of new years =] i was watching the ball drop & my husband and i were at some friends house. i was cramping and hurting really bad, so right after the ball dropped we had to go home. he kept telling me to go to the hospital, but i figured it was just the normal pains that come along with pregnancy because i had a difficult pregnancy and was high risk..
by january 3, 2008, i was starting to have pains to where i couldn't stand it any longer. my husband finally talked me into going to the hospital. it was about 10:00pm. our friend was at the house so he came with us. once we got to the hospital they wheeled me to the labor & delivery wing. my doctor was there delivering another baby so she came in and hooked me up to the contraction monitor. sure enough, i was having contractions! i was only 29 weeks pregnant, so she called an ambulance to come and take me to erlanger hospital in chattanooga, tn. (which is 2 hours away & on a really curvy road) they started my iv's, gave me some magnesium to slow the labor down, gave me a shot of steriods for her lungs, and put a catheder in me. after they put the catheder in me i started having fluids rush out of me, i was thinking, omg my water just broke. i tried pressing the nurse call button and it didn't work! my husband went home to get our clothes & stuff we needed, so i picked up the phone and called my husband and told him to call the hospital and tell them i needed them and i was crying the whole time. he was freaking out telling me to call 911, but i thought that was stupid. his friend was on the phone with 411 getting the number to the hospital, but then my doctor came in. i was in tears and she checked me, my water wasn't broke, but they couldn't figure out what the fluids were because it wasn't pee either.. i went from 3 to 5 cm in 2 hours. then the ambulance got there. i was really hot because of the magnesium, i was really miserable, if you have had it you know how awful it is! when we got outside it was snowing & snow was everywhere, i told the ambulance people to let me sit outside for a minute because i was hot. they did for a minute, but they were shivering and told me we had to go.
the ambulance ride was longgg. the whole time the guy in the back with me was telling me not to have the baby until we got there. i don't know what his problem was but he couldn't sit still.. my ears were ringing from the sirens, and everything was sliding around because of the curvy road. when we were half way down the road a rock fell on the ambulance, (from the mountain) but they kept going.. we finally got there..
when i got there they rushed me in, asked a lot of questions while giving me an ultrasound and hooked me up to thier iv's and monitors, took blood, etc. my hubby came in not long after that. it was about 1am and i was tired but in pain so i couldn't sleep. the next morning they gave me something to make me sleep so i did for about an hour or so. my husband woke me up to tell me he had to go pick up my grandpa who flew in at the airport. i was still 5 cm, so i figured i still had a while and the doctor told me it would probably be sunday before i had her(it was friday). well all of the sudden i got to 8cm. they told me it would be soon, so i called my hubby and told him to hurry! he said the plane was landing now. the nurses talkedme into getting an epidural since i was so tired. they said i would be easier and not as long. they came in with it and checked me, i was 9cm. they told me they couldn't do it that far along. i looked awful and started crying so i guess they felt sorry for me and they did it anyway. about 30 minutes later it was time to push. it took me about 4 pushes and out came baby! i couldnt hold her because she was rushed into NICU. we were in NICU for six long weeks, but thankfully we stayed at the Ronald McDonald House right across the road! She is now healthy and weighing 14lbs 8oz at7 months old!
